Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority's (GMWDA) 2011 Community Waste Fund has re-launched today offering over £50,000 to community groups and organisations, for the chance to kick start waste prevention and recycling projects in Greater Manchester. The fund supports Recycle for Greater Manchester's aim of encouraging residents and community groups to reduce, re-use and recycle more Greater Manchester's waste.
OVER £50,000 AVAILABLE!
For 2011-12 the Community Waste Fund is bigger. Due to the success and over subscription of the fund last year the Authority has agreed to increase the amount available to community groups to £100k, so this year we will be allocating the fund over two rounds.
We hope this will encourage more groups to apply and give groups extra time to consider whether their project idea is relevant for the Fund. All of the criteria for applicants remain the same. However, in the first round this year the emphasis is on increasing our recycling rate across Greater Manchester.
HELP GMWDA REACH A 50% RECYCLING RATE BY 2015!
Our aim is to get local groups such as tenants and residents groups and community groups to think of innovative ways to help residents to recycle right and to recycle more in Greater Manchester. (Please note that applications for other projects that meet our criteria will still be considered).
SUCCESS SO FAR......
GMWDA is also encouraging partnership working and an excellent example of this is two community organisations PEARLS and RE>BUILD (based in Rochdale and Bury), who successfully applied for the Community Waste Fund last year. They have collaborated to enable another scrap store scheme to start in Bury. The store collects unwanted scrap materials from local businesses and sell the quality low cost resources to schools, nurseries, community groups and individuals for arts and craft purposes.
