Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority's (GMWDA) 2011 Community Waste Fund has re-launched today offering over £50,000 to community groups and organisations, for the chance to kick start waste prevention and recycling projects in Greater Manchester. The fund supports Recycle for Greater Manchester's aim of encouraging residents and community groups to reduce, re-use and recycle more Greater Manchester's waste.

OVER £50,000 AVAILABLE!
For 2011-12 the Community Waste Fund is bigger. Due to the success and over subscription of the fund last year the Authority has agreed to increase the amount available to community groups to £100k, so this year we will be allocating the fund over two rounds.

We hope this will encourage more groups to apply and give groups extra time to consider whether their project idea is relevant for the Fund. All of the criteria for applicants remain the same. However, in the first round this year the emphasis is on increasing our recycling rate across Greater Manchester.

HELP GMWDA REACH A 50% RECYCLING RATE BY 2015!
Our aim is to get local groups such as tenants and residents groups and community groups to think of innovative ways to help residents to recycle right and to recycle more in Greater Manchester. (Please note that applications for other projects that meet our criteria will still be considered).

SUCCESS SO FAR......
GMWDA is also encouraging partnership working and an excellent example of this is two community organisations PEARLS and RE>BUILD (based in Rochdale and Bury), who successfully applied for the Community Waste Fund last year. They have collaborated to enable another scrap store scheme to start in Bury. The store collects unwanted scrap materials from local businesses and sell the quality low cost resources to schools, nurseries, community groups and individuals for arts and craft purposes.

IMPORTANT DATES FOR YOUR DIARY!
The first funding round for 2011 opened on 9th May 2011 and will close on 17th June 2011. The second funding round for this year will open on 5th December 2011 and close on the 20th January 2012.

Applicants will be able to access the guidance for applicants on line and will need to complete an initial on line expression of interest form. Both documents are available at www.gmwda.gov.uk/communitywastefund

APPLY......
Why not get involved and apply for this great opportunity to help Greater Manchester reach its target of zero waste to landfill. Whether you are a community village group that organises swap shops, or a social enterprise which trains volunteers to promote reduce, re-use and recycling, this fund maybe right up your street!

Financial assistance is available for charities, social enterprises and community groups in the United Kingdom to undertake projects which support refugee and asylum seeking women who have experienced rape, torture or other forms of abuse.

This Comic Relief programme aims to fund work with the most vulnerable refugee and asylum-seeking women who have experienced rape, torture or other forms of violence in their home countries.

There are two strands to the programme:
Crisis Support: This programme will fund support services for refugee and asylum-seeking women that help them cope with the trauma they have experienced; this could include counselling or group work. The programme will also fund legal support that recognises past trauma and enables women to disclose the full stories behind their asylum claims and also support health initiatives that help women with the impact of trauma on their mental and physical wellbeing.

Training: Comic Relief are also interested in funding work to develop training and support packages that improve and embed knowledge and practice about how to work with this vulnerable group of women. Training can be targeted at refugee or mainstream organisations.

Grants on average vary between £25,000 and £40,000 and are usually for between one and three years.

The remaining deadlines for applications are 28th June and 6th September 2010.

Successful awardees are able to apply for repeat funding subject to providing suitable monitoring feedback and rollout potential, although the priority will be new applicants.

To date, 95 organisations have received grants of between £250 and £5,000 in the three test regions of Greater London, West Midlands and the North West. Current projects include helping disabled people to learn new skills, play a greater role in their communities and be active in the workplace.

Applications can be submitted online, by e-mail, phone or post. In particular, we are interested in projects that help remove the attitudinal barriers that sometimes prevent disabled people from volunteering. We are also interested in applications from organisations new to volunteering.

The website: www.accesstovolunteering.org has details of how to apply alongside a list of successful bids, or phone our helpline for more information on: 03000 123 346.
