Do you have a passion for community development and experience of working with partner organisations to create services? Can you also offer a developed understanding of the health and social care sector and of the needs of people affected by cancer?

All over the UK, our services offer a vital support network and are a force for positive change. Working with partner organisations, Macmillan Solutions will coordinate practical, emotional and financial solutions for people affected by cancer.

As part of that larger strategy, we need you to lead the successful implementation of the Macmillan Solutions project across our pilot site in Manchester.

Working with a diverse network of people affected by cancer, local community groups and those involved in health and social care provision, you'll drive the recruitment, training and support of volunteers, our positive engagement with partner organisations, and the mobilisation of local communities. In addition to your pivotal contribution in developing capacity and infrastructure to deliver our strategic objectives, your management and support of the local team will enable them to maximise their personal and collective contributions to the same end. And, of course, you'll ensure we achieve all this within our financial resources and to meet the individual needs of people affected by cancer.

As an experienced strategic project manager, you are collaborative in approach but confident in working independently. Your track record demonstrates the ability to engage with and mobilise local communities and to build effective relationships between groups and organisations and you adopt an inclusive approach that supports a non-directive and participative way of working in partnership.

We know that you'll see your reward in the quality of the outcomes you achieve - both your own and that of the team - and because we feel the same, we commit to actively developing you within the role and offer excellent benefits including BUPA, life assurance, pension, childcare vouchers, generous annual leave and interest free loans for season ticket and gym membership.

Closing Date: 09 Nov 2010

Help tomorrow take shape. 2011 Census coming to a letterbox near you.

On 27 March 2011 all residential households in the United Kingdom will be taking part in a census. Since 1801 a day has been chosen every ten years for this purpose (except in 1941 during the war).

The census provides an excellent source of information about the population. This enables central and local government, health authorities and many other organisations to identify need for housing, education, health and transport services for years to come.

The census statistics also feed into the allocation of funding for local authorities and play a major part in identifying need for local services in communities, so it is crucial the population estimate is as accurate as possible. The 2011 Census doesn't want anyone to fall behind - so there is a wide range of help options available (such as language guidance booklets, large print format, Text Relay and census field staff on hand, as well as online help and telephone call centres).

We need help to deliver a successful census in Manchester, so this is your chance to be part of something special. The Census is generating over 35,000 jobs across England and Wales, including about 400 jobs in Manchester.

The census team are keen to recruit people from all parts of our community with the skills and experience to reach everybody in the city.

If you work or live locally and have skills that would help to ensure the 2011 Census reaches to all parts of our diverse communities, please visit Census jobs page , and visit the site regularly in order to keep up to date regarding roles that are available and how to apply.

What jobs are available?
A range of temporary part time and full time jobs are available from supervisory roles to general collectors across England and Wales. The roles are ideal for anyone looking to earn extra money, community focused individuals, parents returning to work, students and graduates, semi-retired, retired and pensioners

Contract periods range from four weeks to ten months. Recruitment will continue during 2010 into early 2011.

All roles require flexibility regarding working hours with the requirement to work up to 8pm in the evening and also weekend working. The majority of roles will be physically demanding, working outside and dealing with the public within your local community. You will need to be able to manage your workload effectively in order to meet set timescales and as a result, it will not always be possible to work in fine weather.

Prior to starting work the Census Team will ensure that you have the knowledge and skills required to complete duties and responsibilities. As a result, you will undertake a blended learning package specific to the role prior to starting work, for which you will receive payment.

Current vacancies are Census Coordinators, Special Enumerators, Census Collectors, Census Coverage Survey Regional Managers, Census Coverage Survey, Team Managers, Census Coverage Survey Interviewers

Visit www.censusjobs.co.uk for more information

A pioneering scheme to help jobseekers get to interviews and potential jobs is being trialled in Wythenshawe. There's now a travel adviser based in Wythenshawe's Job Centre Plus, who can supply timetables and help to plan routes on public transport, bike, or on foot, so that applicants can consider jobs that may be further afield. Once an applicant is in post, they can also be issued with pre-paid travel tickets until they receive their first wage packet.

The Travel Advice Service - which is a first for Manchester - has been set up by Manchester City Council and Job Centre Plus and is part of the Woodhouse Park Community Travel Project. The scheme also sits within the council's Helping Hands campaign, designed to help residents through the recession.

Councillor Con Keegan, Executive Member for Employment and Skills at Manchester City Council, said: "These are tough times and helping people into jobs is a council priority. Transport is an issue for some jobseekers and we need to remove that barrier, so that applicants aren't limited to small geographic areas. "The travel advice is also designed to be sustainable and suit individual applicants. If the applicant is a parent for example, who needs to be able to get to their child's school twice a day, they will be shown the different ways they could get from the school to a potential employer on public transport."

The new travel adviser post was created through the Greater Manchester Future Jobs Fund - an initiative which is primarily aimed at 18-24-year-olds who have been unemployed for six months or more to benefit the wider community and the individuals who are employed. The appointment comes after a travel survey in March of 500 homes in Woodhouse Park, which included questions about the role that transport played in applying for jobs.

Councillor Eddie McCulley, Chair of the Wythenshawe Area Committee, said: "I'm hoping residents make the most of this scheme because it has the potential to break part of a cycle in unemployment. Wythenshawe residents have a lot to offer and making them aware of the excellent public transport links and services widens the jobs pool, which has benefits for the entire community."

Appointments can be made to see the travel adviser through the Woodhouse Park Job Centre Plus based at Simon House, Wavell Road in Wythenshawe Town Centre. Tel 0845 604 3719.
