Weekly Update – Manchester Employer Suite
Employer Activity
G4S
Following the G4S ‘Security Open day’ 20 people have now commenced onto the pre employment training course that is to be delivered in the suite. The training will be delivered by G4S, and The Manchester College.
Interviews will take place on Friday 4th March.
Retail Works
Open days via The National Skills Academy & The Manchester College
have now started, 18 customers have commenced on the first of 4 courses for retail works
CV’s have been received and mock interviews conducted with trainees and the staff from the Employer Suite has been matching individuals to city centre retail vacancies.
The next 2 open / selection days for the courses are will be held on the 3rd March and the 17th March.
Royal Bank of Scotland
A decision nationally by RBS to move some of their call centre work from the Midlands area to Manchester has now been made; this has created an additional 620 positions for Manchester during 2011.
RBS has an excellent relationship with the Employer Suite and they have chosen to use the suite as the focus for their recruitment, to support this a presentation on the job roles and application process has been delivered to providers and JCP. Local Labour Market Recruitment Advisors in the local offices have also been instructed to increase referral activity to the Employer Suite.
RBS also attended the JobsCity event and are holding a further 60 interviews today 14/2/2011 for those individuals identified at the JobsCity event as having potential.
Monthly assessments dates will be held in the suite to manage the RBS recruitment referral is via the suite by telephoning 0161 833 0144
TUI –Childcare
4 Pre- employment training courses (up to 60 trainee’s) starting 7th March for 2 weeks ending on the TUI assessment day on 18th March. (providers via SFA funding Trafford College, Manchester College, Stockport College, Salford College)
Registration for the training will be held on 3rd March referrals managed through the Suite.
Franchising Works
FranchisingWorks are holding an ‘Open day’ on the 9th March to showcase Franchising opportunities to MCC employees facing redundancies. Registrations are now being taken for either drop in sessions at 10am-1pm or 1pm-4pm, or an email can be sent to events@theblueorchid.co.uk

Skills Solutions have arranged an open day for 10th March to engage with year 11 and college students considering apprenticeships.
Apprenticeship Business Breakfast – 8th March 2011
Manchester City Council, the National Apprenticeship Service and the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce are committed to increasing the amount of apprentice opportunities within the city. This event is aimed at demonstrating the variety of vacancies that are now open to an apprenticeship approach, whilst also highlighting the bottom-line benefits to your business of employing apprentices. Case studies to illustrate the impact of apprentices on business will be presented by Grant Thornton, BT Openreach and Bank of New York Mellon.
