KidsCan World Record Attempt
Event Date: Sun 01 Jul 2012
Opportunity Location: M41 7TB in Manchester (View on Map)
Sunday 1st July 12noon - 4.00pm at EventCity, Trafford
(Please note 12noon is when the gates open, so volunteers will be required earlier)KidsCan Children's Cancer Research Centre are attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the largest ever Can Can Dance. We anticipate having 5,000 people taking part (each paying £10
entry fee) in the record attempt itself and are hoping to raise £50,000 for KidsCan. This amount of money will help to fund vital research into childhood cancers.
On the day we need enthusiastic volunteers to help us manage the participants. Volunteers will be involved in getting people into the venue and helping people into lines for the attempt itself. Your main role will be to adjudicate the participants during the attempt, making sure they are all dancing correctly and therefore aiding the adjudication process. We require 1 volunteer for every 50
participants in the record attempt. Therefore the event will require 150 volunteers, so we need your help to make it a success
KidsCan were established specifically to support research into new and improved treatments for
children with cancer. We are a national charity, based in Salford, researching a high profile disease. Our scientists are looking for treatments which are less damaging to the bodies of children and young adults. They aim to reduce both short and long term side effects whilst retaining the effectiveness of many current treatments. The work carried out within the KidsCan laboratories covers a range of
activities from basic research into new treatments, through to applied research focused on improving the outcome of therapies currently used in the treatment of children with cancer.
At present we receive no statutory funding and the continuation of our research relies solely on the support of businesses, donations from the public, collections undertaken by our volunteers and
fundraising events, like the Can Can, organised by the KidsCan team.
